When someone asks me for my Times Square recs, I always think back to that perfect 30 Rock moment when Liz Lemon goes out with a guy who tells her he knows about “a really neat Canadian restaurant in Times Square.” Finding something worth eating in Times Square feels insurmountable, like pushing a boulder up a hill, while also being chased by bootleg costumed Elmos. Don’t panic. Don’t go to Guy’s American Grill for the lulz. Take this list, walk one avenue over and enjoy near-perfect neon-lit bliss.

Eat

City Kitchen

This is my go-to, especially if you need to quickly grab dinner before a show. It’s one of those food courts made up of counters from different restaurants, that are becoming increasingly popular in the city – I love them!

Totto Ramen

There are two locations – one on W52nd St. & 9th Ave and one on W51st St. & 10th Ave. The W52nd St. one usually has a bigger line, but it moves pretty quickly. The ramen is superb. If you’re trying to do this before a show, leave plenty of time for the queue.

Tehuitzingo

Perfect tacos from the back of a bodega. Try their carnitas (roast pork).

Los Tacos No. 1

Cheap and delicious. Go for the corn tortillas over the flour ones.

Bibble & Sip

Asian-inspired coffee shop and bakery, with many matcha options.

Shake Shack Times Square

A quick burger fix near the “Crossroads of the World.” The line moves quickly, though finding a seat in the communal area can be intense.

Drink Divey

Rudy’s Bar & Grill

Busy after work, with $4 beers and free hot dogs.

Jimmy’s Corner

Old-school bar with a ’70s vibe.

Drink Fancy

Ippudo Westside

Popular ramen chain with tonkotsu pork broth. Expect a line.

Réunion

Surf-shack–themed underground bar with tropical cocktails.

Beer Culture

Craft beer drafts and bottles in a cozy setting.
